Slough’s The Future Works wins environmental award

Author: AshbyCapital |

AshbyCapital and U+I’s The Future Works office development in Slough has been recognised for its sustainability by the international Green Apple Environment Awards 2022.

The award, which aims to recognise, reward and promote environmental best practice around the world, has been given to The Future Works in recognition of its pioneering approach to sustainability. The building, which has a BREEAM environmental and sustainability rating of ‘Excellent’, incorporates features such as photovoltaic panels, rainwater harvesting, high-efficiency LED lighting, smart metering, ventilation heat recovery and electric car-charging points.

A bespoke app, available to those working at the building, also promotes sustainability and wellness, connecting occupiers to the building’s systems and community. Features include contactless access via smartphone from reception to office floor, energy monitoring and occupancy sensors. A digital screen in reception, supplied and managed by 444 Digital, also helps occupiers understand and reduce energy usage.

Businesses today are increasingly conscious of their impact on the environment. Choosing the right office space can make a big difference to a company’s carbon footprint, and that is why at The Future Works we’ve created a workspace that not only minimises energy usage through sustainable features but also encourages sustainable behaviour from tenants, whether that means switching off lights or unused appliances through our app, or cycling to work and using our excellent end-of-trip facilities. We’re thrilled that our efforts have been recognised with this international award

The Future Works is the first phase of a £200 million investment in Slough and provides 100,000 sq ft of prime office space in a striking building designed by award-winning architects Sheppard Robson. The building includes a café, called Lucy’s Kitchen, linked to the reception area and showcasing the latest in biophilic design; it also has a 3,100 sq ft communal roof terrace with views of Windsor Castle and Wi-Fi connectivity. The building’s extensive facilities for cyclists and runners include bicycle parking, luxurious changing rooms with towel service, a drying room and a smart vending machine.

Future occupiers will join ByBox, the specialist in smart locker technology and field service solutions, and WRK, the flexible serviced office and co-working provider on the ground and first floors. 74,000 sq ft of office space is currently available, over five contiguous floors.
